GREENVILLE, NC-- ODU senior Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.) scored from second baseOn an ECU error in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Monarchs to a 3-2 win over the 24th ranked Pirates Wednesday night.
Sophomore reliever Dean Ali (Chesapeake, VA.) picked up the save in the ninth getting out of a jam with runners on second and third with two outs. Junior righthander Brandon Smith (Chesapeake, VA.) picked up his fifth win of the season (5-1) after pitching three scoreless innings in relief.
ODU jumped on the board first after senior shortstop Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) homer hit the leftfield pole with senior secondbaseman Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, VA.) on base for a 2-0 Monarch lead.
In the fourth inning Jack Reinheimer tripled home Zach Wright and Bryan Basswith two outs to tie the game at 2-2.
Josh Eldridge and Chris Baker both led ODU with two hits each tonight, ahile Zach Wright and Jack Reinheimer had two hits each for ECU.
ODU has now beated the Pirates two years in a row in Greenville,NC. The Monarchs host defending CAA Champion JMU in a three game CAA series beginning Friday night At 6 p.m. with "Flood The Bud" night. All tickets are 1 dollar.
