Lady Monarchs Sign Seven to NLI's

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's soccer signed seven student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Joe Pereira announced Wednesday.

Brooke Boland, Devin Dougherty, Kelly Farrell, Jordan Jones, Sarah Price, Allyson Spafford and Caroline Survill will all join the Lady Monarchs in the fall.

"The beast right now is a two-year cycle so we feel like we have upgraded the roster and brought in some attitude, strong, athletic physical players to what we already have," Pereira said. "The class is very balanced, we're looking for big things from this class."

Brooke Boland (MF/D, Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Pennington (N.J.)
A four-year starter at Pennington, Boland helped lead Pennington to three New Jersey State Championships. She was a two-time Star Ledger and Trenton Times First-Team All Prep selection and received the All-Area Mercer 33 Red Raider Award.

She helped her club team, FC Bucks Xtreme to six championships including the 2011 ECNL National Championship with an undefeated tournament run in Denver.

Devin Dougherty (MF, Mickleton, N.J./Gloucester Catholic)
Dougherty was a three-time First-Team All-Gloucester honoree. She earned All-State honors as a senior and was a two-time All-South Jersey selection. She led Gloucester Catholic in goals and assists her senior season.

She helped her club team, the Highland Wildcats to a No. 32 national ranking.

"She is very good on the ball and moves well. We are pretty excited what she brings to the table and will give us that central midfield production that we are looking to improve."

Kelly Farrell (F/MF, Sicklerville, N.J/Timber Creek)
A four-year starter at Timber Creek, Farrell earned First-Team All-State and All-South Jersey accolades. She led her team to the South Hersey Championship and helped her squad to the playoffs three times.

Farrell helped her club team, the Highland Wildcats, to the 2011 Jefferson Cup Showcase Elite Championship and the New Jersey State cup semifinals three times.

"She is an attacking midfield player and she will have an immediate impact for us. She will play in the midfield for us and add that attacking aspect to the position."

Jordan Jones (F, Sicklerville, N.J./Winslow Township)
Jones was a four-time Scholar-Athlete at Winslow Township and a four-year Honor Roll student. She was a two-time All-Conference first-team honoree and was named team MVP her junior season.

Sarah Price (D, Avon by the Sea, N.J./Saint Rose)
Price led Saint Rose to its first ever state championship and also helped the squad to three-straight Central Conference Championships. She was named to the All-Monmouth County Team and the Coaches All-Division Team as well as Defensive Player of the Year.

Her club team, Match Fit Chelsea was ranked No. 15 in the country and No. 3 in New Jersey.

"Sarah is a very smart central defender. She is a smart, athletic physical player that we're looking at to be an anchor presence on the back line."

Allyson Spafford (F, Laguna Hills, Calif./Laguna Hills)
A four-year starter and two-time All-Conference player at Laguna Hills, Spafford was the teams offensive MVP in 2010. She was a two-time Scholar-Athlete award winner and a three-year letter winner on the cross country team.

"Ally is an attacking player that is very good at going forward. We are looking at her and Jordan to give us a big lift going forward."

Caroline Survill (D, Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional)
Survill earned first-team All-Conference and First-Team All-Somerset County in 2011 as well as being named team MVP. She helped her club team, Match Fit Chelsea to five championships including the Atlanta Final 4 Showcase and the CALS Showcase Championship.

"Caroline has a big frame that is athletic and versatile across the back line. She has played on the central and flank and we will look for big things right away from her."
