NORFOLK, VA-- Josh Wright and Michael Perez each drove in runs for ODU (2-6), but the Spiders of Richmond (3-3) defeated the Monarchs, 8-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
Richmond firstbaseman Jacob Mayers knocked in three runs for the Spiders, includinga two-run homer in the first inning, his fourth of the season. Adam Forrer alsoknocked in two runs for the Spiders with a single in the three-run fifth inning.
The Monarchs got on the board in the third inning as thirdbaseman Brian Basharaled off with a double down the leftfield line. He was sacrificed to third by Brandon Shelton and then scored on Josh Wright's RBI groundout.
In the seventh, Josh Tutwiler singled and advanced to third on Chris Baker's single. Tutwiler woule come home on freshman Michael Perez RBI groundout.
Richmond's Andrew Blum picked up the win after going 6.1 innings allowing fourhits, two runs, two walks and five strikeouts.
Adam Mcconnell had two hits for UR, while Matt Zink scored twice. Drew Coker,Josh Tutwiler, Chris Baker and Brian Bashara each had a hit for ODU.
The Monarchs and Spiders play again Wedensday in Richmond at 2:30 p.m.
