WILMINGTON, N.C. - Kent Bazemore had 17 points and Old Dominion sank three free throws in the game's final 23 seconds, lifting the Monarchs to a 53-48 win over UNCW on Wednesday night in Trask Coliseum to keep them in the Colonial Athletic Association race.
The Monarchs are now 5-1 on the road in CAA games.
Keith Rendleman's layup brought the Seahawks to within 50-48, but Marquel De Lancey, Dimitri Batten and Bazemore each sank one foul shot in the final seconds to seal it for the Monarchs (13-9, 8-2).
Old Dominion is locked in a three-way tie with Drexel and Virginia Commonwealth in the CAA standings, the trio all just one game behind first-place George Mason.
Chris Cooper notched his CAA leading 12th double-double for Old Dominion, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 boards.
ODU held the Seahawks to .302 (19-63) shooting from the floor and came up with ninesteals, led by Richard Ros with four. Ross also handed out four assists.
UNCW edged the Monarchs in rebounding, 45-44. Besides Cooper's 11, Nick Wrightand Kent Bazemore each had six, followed by Trian Iliadis and Donte Hill withfive each.
Bazemore was 7-11 from the floor and a perfect 2-2 from three-point range. ODU led18-17 at halftime and in the second half led by as much as nine, 47-38 after aBazemore jumper with 3:28 left in the game.
The Seahawks last lead was 31-30 with 13:16 left on a Rendleman layup.
Adam Smith led UNC Wilmington (8-12, 4-6) with 18 points, while Rendleman finished with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
The Monarchs have won two consecutive games, while the Seahawks have lost two straight.
ODU hosts William and Mary Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Coaches Vs. Cancer contestfollowed by Virginia Wesleyan against Christopher Newport.
