Monarchs Beat Towson, 71-41 For Fourth Straight Win

TOWSON, MD-- The ODU Monarchs won their fourthstraight game with a 71-41 victory at Towson Wednesday night. Three Monarchs scored in double figures led by Nick Wright with 13. Trian Iliadis scored 12 andChris Cooper added 10.

ODU improves to 11-8 overall and 6-1 in the CAA, while Towson drops to 0-19 overall and 0-7 in the CAA.

ODU led by one, 14-13 with 11:27 left in the first half and after a Richard Rossfastbreak dunk, the Monarchs went on a 9-2 run to take a 23-16 lead with 7:24 left in the half. ODU would take a nine-point lead, 33-24 into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half ODU opened with a 17-4 run for a 50-28 lead after a three-pointer by Nick Wright with 13:36 left in the game. Freshman Brion Key's layupwith 7:00 left gave the Monarchs its biggest lead at 35, 66-31.

The Monarchs shot .527 (29-55) from the floor,while holding the Tigers to .313 (15-48) and only 17 points in the second half.

Towson outrebounded ODU, 34-32 with Chris Cooper leading ODU with eight rebounds, followed by Donte Hill with five.

ODU's defense forced the Tigers into 18 turnovers thanks to 13 steals. Kent Bazemore,Donte Hill, Marquel De Lancey and Trian Iliadis had two steals each.ODU turned the ball over only nine times.

Robert Nwankwo led Towson with 12 points,10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

ODU returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Richmond for an 8 p.m.contest at VCU. the game will be televised on Comcast MidAtlantic in the Hampton Roads area.
