FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's swimming & diving squad defeated host George Mason and William & Mary, while the Old Dominion women's swimming & diving team picked up victory over the host Patriots in the final day of action at the annual CAA Pod Meet held at the George Mason Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.
The men's team picked up a 182.00-169.00 win against host George Mason and earned a 175.00-158.00 victory over William & Mary to up their overall mark to 4-0 on the 2011-12 season.
The women's squad earned a 195.00-155.00 victory over host George Mason, but fell 220.00-131.00 to James Madison, 200.00-153.00 to Northeastern, and 191.00-150.00 to William & Mary. The Lady Monarchs now stand at 3-4 on the year.
For the men, Arni Arnason, who the previous day had won the 200 individual medley, won the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Arnason was one of three pod meet swimmers to race in the 100 breast in under a minute with his top time of 54.73. In the 200 breast, he was the only competitor under the two-minute mark hitting the wall with a time of 1:58.38.
Sidni Hoxha also picked up another victory on day two. After capturing the 50 freestyle on day one, Hoxha added a win in the 100 freestyle on day two recording a time of 45.55.
In relay action, the 200 medley relay team of Birkir Jonsson, Arnason, Sidni Hoxha, and Chad Smith took first place swimming to a time of 1:32.64.
Bernardo Figuredo took second for the Monarchs in the 500 freetyle logging a time of 4:41.66.
After capturing the top time in the 1650 freestyle on day one, Yesim Giresunlu continued her success in the distance events with a first place finish in the 500 freestyle. Giresunlu took the top time by .03 seconds with a time of 4:57.36 making it the fifth fastest time in the ODU record books in the event.
Ashley Luchsinger captured a pair of second place victories for the Lady Monarchs in the butterly. Luchsinger placed second in the 100 fly, clocking in with a time of 57.84 and was also second in the 200 fly with her time of 2:06.36. Kimberley Rashleigh collected a time of 4:31.64 in the 400 individual medley for a second place showing in the event.
In the relays, the Lady Monarch 400 freestyle relay, comprised of Rashleigh, Emma Forbes, Savannah Bowers, and Erla Haraldsdottir claimed first place logging a time of 3:32.91.
The ODU swimming and diving teams return to action on November 17th-18th at the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
