FAIRFAX, Va. -- Day one action has concluded at the annual pod meet being hosted at the George Mason Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.
Through six events, the ODU men currently lead host George Mason, 55.00-54.00, and William & Mary, 63.00-37.00. On the women's side, the Lady Monarchs trail host George Mason, 49.00-58.00, James Madison, 35.00-75.00, Northeastern, 42.00-68.00, and William & Mary, 42.00-62.00.
The Monarchs were the top finishers in three of the six events. Two-time CAA Swimmer of the Year Arni Arnason collected a first place time of 1:50.74 in the 200 individual medley. Sidni Hoxha, last year's CAA champion in the 50 free, continued his winning ways in the event by hitting the wall first in a time of 20.57.
In the relay event of the day, the 400 medley, Birkir Jonsson, Arnason, Eddie Hubert, and Andrew Crockett teamed together for another first place finish for the men with a time of 3:27.20.
Newcomer Bernardo Figuredo also posted one of the top finishes for the Monarchs claiming second in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:04.98.
On the women's side, freshman Yesim Giresunlu continued her success in the distance freestyle events taking a first place time of 17:04.78 in the 1650 free.
Action continues tomorrow in the annual CAA Pod meet.
