NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University head women's golf coach CarolRobertson announced today the signing of four-time All-State golfer LaurenEklund of Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, Va. to a letter of intent.
"I am extremely proud to say that Lauren Eklund will be a part of this team not only Because I know I am getting a great golfer but also a great person and family of supporters.
In a short time Lauren has proven to me that she is an athlete who understands theWonderful opportunity that's been given her and she will spend the next four yearsAchieving her goals through dedication and hard work. She has all the great qualities Coaches look for in a recruit and I have no doubt she will make a major impact on our Program. The team and the ODU community are so excited to welcome her in the fall."-ODU Head Coach Carol Robertson.
Eklund was named to the Virginia AAA High School's girls All-State teamIn 2008, 09, 10 and 11. She was named All-Region three times and all-AlbemarleDistrict four times. Eklund is a three-time Charlottesville City Champion, winning in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
Eklund finished 13th out of 102 girls at the 2011 Optimist International Tournament and eighth at the 2011 Optimist International Tournament of Champions as well asthe junior Valentine Girls Division 2011 winner.
"I chose ODU because the school's atmosphere and people seem so happyand upbeat to be around. Coach Robertson seems dedicated to her work andmaking the team better each year. The girls on the team are so nice and outgoing,they made me feel like I was not only part of the team, but also a part of the golffamily. ODU made my choice for picking a college an easy one. It has so much tooffer, from my major, to every aspect of making me a better student and a better golfer.
She is the daughter of Tom and Lori Eklund.
