NORFOLK, VA-- Emma Batten scored two goals and Kathryn Kirk assisted on two to helplead the second ranked Lady Monarchs (21-2)to a 5-0 NCAA first round win over Ohio State Saturday afternoon at ODU's Powhatan Sports Complex. ODU will meet the winner of Duke Sunday at 2 p.m. Duke defeated Stanford, 5-0.
"Our defense really has been a key for us. We attack from our defense. Everybodyunderstands their roles and responsiblities. They don't alway's do it pretty, but they do it hard.The only thing I want at the end of the season is for the kids towalk off the field, knowing they played hard. The final score is not always the prize."- ODU Head Coach Beth Anders.
Two minutes into the match, Kati Nearhouse gave ODU a 1-0 lead off a corner with the assists from Stephanie Kratzer and Kelsey Smither.
Rebecca Condie put the Lady Monarchs up 2-0 off a rebound shot, then Batten added her 26th and 27th goals of the season late in the first half and at the beginning of the second half.Lydia Velzian scored the fifth and final goal.
ODU keeper Devon Siefert picked up her eighth shutout of the season.She hadfour saves on the day.

ODU and Duke played twice during the regular season, both matches went into overtime. ODU defeated the Blue Devils, 3-2 in double-overtime in Durham,and Dukewon here at ODU, 2-1 in overtime.
