PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The No. 1 Old Dominion field hockey team narrowly edged Drexel, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa. to remain the lone unbeaten team in the country.

The Lady Monarchs, who trailed in a game for the just second time all season Sunday, improve to 14-0 on the year and 4-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The contest was the fourth consecutive game away from home for ODU.

Drexel struck first in the second minute of the game as Ashley Santee scored for the Dragons, snapping ODU'S 229-minute streak of holding opponents off the scoreboard. The impressive defensive feat lasted a span of four games.

Old Dominion senior Stephanie Kratzer tied the game at the 13:34 mark of the first half. The game would remain tied until halftime.

Just over eight minutes into the second half, junior Maartje van Rijswijk tallied her sixth goal of the season to put ODU up 2-1 and the Lady Monarchs held that lead.

Old Dominion outshot Drexel 24-3, but Dragons goalkeeper Kim Chiarelli registered nine saves to keep the contest extremely close throughout.

Old Dominion next plays at No. 3 Maryland on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. The Lady Monarchs upended the Terrapins earlier this season, 4-0, in Norfolk.
