WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The ODU men's swimming and diving team defeated the 10-time Colonial Athletic Association Seahawks, 186.00-165.00, while the ODU women's swimming and diving squad spilt results, picking up a 86.00-77.00 win over Richmond while falling 96.00-67.00 to the host Seahawks.
The Monarchs earned four individual and a relay win in their first victory of the 2011-12 campaign.
Senior Arni Arnason (Mosfellsbaer, Iceland) won the 200 breast (2:02.94), freshman Bernardo Figuredo picked up a win in the 500 free (4:39.96), sophomore Sidni Hoxha (Tirane, Albania) won the 100 free (46.27), and Jason Brame (Lynchburg, Va.) brought home a win in the 400 IM (4:11.00) for the Monarchs.
The 200 medley relay team also gave ODU a victory with Birkir Jonnson (Keflavik, Iceland), Arni Arnason, Sidni Hoxha, and Chad Smith swimming to a top time of 1:32.70.
On the women's side, Yesim Giresunlu earned a victory in the 500 free (5:02.16), senior Erla Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland) picked up a win in the 200 breast (2:22.14), and junior Jessica Hubert (Newport News, Va.) hit the wall first in the 200 fly (2:07.50).
The ODU men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, October 15th hosting Howard at the J.C. Scrap Chandler Pool.
