NORFOLK, Va. - Jocelyn Weidner scored in the first half to tie the score but Delaware scored two second half goals to lead UD to a 3-1 win Friday night in Norfolk.
With the loss, ODU drops to 5-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in CAA play while the Blue Hens move to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
Delaware opened up the scoring with a goal by Ali Miller who scored off a free kick just outside the box.
ODU answered right back in the 20th minute when Jocelyn Weidner received a pass back from Lisa Bernardini and fired a shot from 25 yards out off the inside part of the right post and in to tie the score at one.
The Blue Hens retook the lead in the 72nd minute when Melissa Pennington sent a cross from the right that got past Brianna Alvarado, allowing Amy Pickard to shoot into the open net for a 2-1 UD lead.
UD added an insurance goal in the 86th minute with a goal off a corner kick from Leigh Victory.
Delaware outshot ODU 17-8 while ODU held a slim 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Breanna Stemler earned the win in goal making two saves while Alvarado made four saves for ODU. Rachael Carroll recorded two defensive saves as well for the Lady Monarchs.
ODU is back in action Sunday afternoon when they host Drexel at 1 p.m.
