ATLANTA, Ga. - Georgia State scored three first half goals on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers defeated Old Dominion University women's soccer 4-0 in Atlanta.
With the loss, ODU drops to 5-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the CAA while GSU improves to 5-8 overall.
The Panthers got off to a quick start, scoring three goals in a nine minute span.
Georgia State got on the board in the 21st minute on a goal from Jewel Evans. Alyssia Feronti sent in a corner kick that was knocked around in the box until Jordan Young sent a pass to Bennett who gave GSU a 1-0 lead.
Eryka Hawkins gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute. Young sent a cross from the right to Hawkins for the 2-0 Georgia State advantage.
Bri Cagle pushed the lead to 3-0 just 47 seconds later as she scored off a free kick.
Bennett capped off the scoring in the 65th minute off a deflected shot from Whitney Ravan.
Victoria Johnson and Lisa Bernardini each had two shots on goal for ODU while Jocelyn Weidner led the team five shots.
The Lady Monarchs held a slim 19-18 edge in shots while GSU held a 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
Kellianne Collins made five stops in goal and combined with Rebecca Ingram on the shutout. Brianna Alvarado made four stops for ODU with Laura Bush making one save.
Old Dominion returns home on Friday, Oct. 7 when they host Delaware at 7 p.m.
