CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Krzysztof Muzalewski won his final two matches to take a fifth place finish over the weekend at the UVA Fall Classic.
ODU had four individuals play singles, with all of them winning at least one match.
Muzalewsi started off the tournament cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Liberty's Jorge Azuero before falling to Penn State's Thomas Hanzlik 1-6, 6-0, 6-3. He came back to defeat East Tennessee State's Rogerio Ribeiro 7-5, 6-2 and knocked off Viktor Svensson of George Washington 6-4, 6-3 to earn fifth place.
Albert Ochagavia battled back from a first round loss to win two-straight before falling in his last match. He fell 6-2, 7-5 to Penn State's Jason Lee in his opener but fought back to defeat Randall Carter 6-3, 6-4 and Joao Maio 6-3, 6-2 of Eastern Kentucky. He lost to Robert Pietrucha of William and Mary 6-1, 6-1 in the backdraw finals.
Wesley Barrett won his first match of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over James Madison's Bastlen Russo before giving No. 1 seed Justin Shane all he could handle, falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Barrett lost another tough one to Ben Marks 3-6, 6-4 (11-9) in his final match.
Carlos Lopez Villa defeated VCU's Alejandro Argente 7-6, 6-3 in his first match before falling in a three-setter, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 to Radford's Igor Ogrizek. He knocked off No. 1 seed Anton Andersson of William and Mary 6-3, 6-2 before falling to Thomas Dehaen of Radford 6-0, 6-3 to finish in sixth place.
Ochagavia and Muzalewski teamed up in doubles action, losing a tough 8-6 contest to William and Mary in the opener. They came back to win 8-6 over Virginia before coming up short in the backdraw finals to Maryland, 8-3.
The Monarchs return to Charlottesville this weekend for the ITA Regional Tournament.
