GREENVILLE, NC-- Old Dominion University junior Samantha Morrell (North Kingstown, RI.) fired a 71 today to finish four under and win the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate with a total of 212 for 54 holes.
Morrell, a two-time All-CAA and 2010 CAA Rookie of the Year won the event by one stroke over Laverry Kumar of UNCW, Ammy Otteson of East Carolina, Juliet Vongphaumy of Maryland and Laura Wearn of Furman who finished tied for second at 213.
Morrell led the tournament in par five scoring at 4.33,tied for second in par four scoring at 4.07, and tied for fourth in birdies with 12.
Over the summer, Morrell won two tournaments, taking the 92nd Rhode Island Women's Golf Association (RIWGA) Match Play Championship in Pawtucket, RI. and repeated as the Ocean State Women's Golf Champion (OSWGA).
As a team, the Lady Monarchs were 16th with a team score of 926. Maryland won the team title at 879.
