GREENVILLE, NC--Junior Samantha Morrell fired a 141 for 36 holes and is in fifth place, just two strokes in back of the tournament leader. Morrell shot 71 in thefirst 18 and 70 in the second round.
She trails Fanny Cnops (69-70=139 )of UNC Greensboro and Laverry Kumar (72-67=139) of UNC Wilmington by just two strokes. Tied for third just one stroke back are Amy Otteson of ECU and Laura Wearn of Furman. Morrell leads the tournament in par five scoring at 4.25, and is tied for 10th with eight birdies.
As a team, the Lady Monarchs are 15th after tallying 613 for 36 holes. The host team, East carolina leads the event by two strokes at 583, followed by UNC Greensboro at 585.
