NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion forced a season-high 27 turnovers and held Georgia State to just 32 percent shooting from the field in a dominating 64-41 win Sunday at the Ted Constant Center.
Senior Jasmine Parker led a balanced ODU attack with 13 points and a career-high tying seven steals, while sophomore JoNiquia Guilford posted 10 points and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds. Tia Lewis fell just short of her eighth double-double of the season as the junior chipped in eight points and led the team with nine boards.
Old Dominion (14-6, 8-1 CAA), which has won eight of its last nine games, remains tied for the top spot in the CAA standings and improves its home record to 9-2 on the year.
Angelique Burtts led Georgia State (7-13, 2-7 CAA) with 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Kendra Long, who exploded for 21 points against the Lady Monarchs in the game played in Atlanta on January 13, was only able to muster eight points Sunday.
Old Dominion broke a close game open midway through the first half, scoring 16 consecutive points and holding the Panthers to just one field goal during the final 8:35 of the opening stanza. Georgia State ended the first half shooting just 24 percent from the field and committing 15 turnovers.
The Lady Monarchs built on their 15-point halftime lead in the second period as Parker and senior Shadasia Green combined for 13 of their 19 points after the intermission. The ODU lead grew too as many as 28 with just over five minutes to play.
Old Dominion held a 45-38 rebounding advantage and forced 13 steals, its third most in a game this season.
Lady Monarch great Medina Dixon's number 13 was retired and hung from the rafters prior to the game and head coach Wendy Larry was presented a commemorative plate honoring her for winning 600 career games.
Old Dominion now hits the road for a pair of critical CAA road games at George Mason on February 3 at 7 p.m. and at James Madison on February 6 at 2 p.m.
