NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion head women's rowing coach Dan Garbutt has announced the signing of 11 student-athletes to national letters of intent to rowing for Old Dominion beginning this fall.
"The quality of depth of this year's recruiting class will have an immediate impact on the speed of our entire program," said head coach Dan Garbutt. "I am excited about our newest Lady Monarchs and what they will add to our culture at Old Dominion."
The Old Dominion women's rowing team wrapped up its third varsity season with several impressive results. Fresh off a second place showing by the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four at the Dad Vail Regatta, the Lady Monarchs also had sweeps of Miami and Colgate, wins over six-time Patriot League Champion Bucknell, a third place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, and Grand Final appearances at the Knecht Cup.

Katarina Bauer - Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman
Four-year member of the Dublin Coffman rowing team under head coach Gina Crooks...Voted captain of the varsity team...Captured a silver medal at The Ohio State University Erg Sprints in 2010...Also earned 13 medals at regattas over her scholastic career...A "Coach's Choice" recipient at both novice and varsity...Honor Roll student...Plans to major in special needs early education.
Jacqueline Donlan - Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional
Four-year member of the Mainland Regional rowing team coached by Matthew McDevitt...Member of the Second Varsity Eight as a junior...Helped her team take third place at the Garden State Scholastic Championships...Member of the Junior Varsity Eight as a sophomore...Won the New Jersey State Championship and placed second at the Atlantic County Championships, Statebury Cup, and SRAA Nationals... Undecided on a major.

Four-year member of the Holy Spirit rowing team for coaches Joseph Welsch, Jay Maccione, and Frank Brennan...Helped the Holy Spirit team to the Atlantic County Championships and state and national finals in 2010...Also a three-year member of the swim team winning the Cal Championships in 2009...Father Kelly James Given was the 1984 Eastern States Champion in pole vaulting...Brother Matthew rows for Boston University...Undecided on a major.
Shannon Huff - Victoria, BC, Canada/Pacific Christian School
Member of the Victoria City Rowing Club since 2007 ...Member of Team British Columbia for the 2010 National Rowing Championships placing third...Member of team Canada for the 2010 CanAmMex Regatta placing first...Has also participated in the 2010 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta taking second with Junior 4+ and first with the Under-17 4+ in 2008...Placed fourth with the Intermediate Lightweight 2+ at the 2010 US Nationals...Also a first place finisher with the Junior B Lightweight 4+ at the 2008 Brentwood Regatta...Named "Female Rower of the Year" by Victoria City...Pacific Christian's "Female Athlete of the Year"....Rowed the Olympic Torch on opening day of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay... Ashley Mauroff - Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Absegami
Four-year member of the Absegami rowing team...Earned a first place gold medal in the 2.25 mile race at the Schuykill from the Children Foundation as a senior...As a junior, earned first place gold medals at the Atlantic County High School Championships and NJ Scholastic Rowing Championships... Also took first in the State of New Jersey competition...Took third place bronze medal at Cities and Stotesbury Regatta...Also placed sixth in the final heat at the SRAA National Championships...During her sophomore season earned a second place silver and third place bronze medals at Atlantic County High School Championships and Manny Flick...In her freshman season rowed to a third place bronze medal at Manny Flick as well as a second place silver and third place bronze medal at the Atlantic County High School Championships...Also rows with the Atlantic County Rowing Association and Brigatine Rowing Association...Earned varsity letters in volleyball and soccer as well...Plans to major in nursing.
Samantha Morris- Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township
A four-year member of the Egg Harbor Township rowing team under Dan Welsh...Won the Atlantic County Championship...Reached the semi-finals placing sixth at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta...Placed fourth at the Garden State Regatta just missing the qualifier for SRAA Nationals...Member of the National Honor Society...Principal's Award for English and Varsity Scholar all four years of high school....Plans to major in English.
Lindsey Sanford- Swansea, Mass./St. Mary Academy
Four year member of the St. Mary Academy rowing team coached by Albin Moser...Won the 2009 and 2010 Neira Championships...Placed fourth at the 2011 Crash B Indoor Rowing Championships...Served as coxswain at the 2009 and 2010 Head of the Charles Regatta...Two-year team captain...Helped St. Mary Academy to an undefeated season in 2010...Member of the Rhode Island Honor Society...Plans to major in marketing.
Kelsea Shiner - Galloway, N.J./ Absegami
Three-year varsity letter winner of the Absegami High School rowing team coached by Brad Young....As a freshman, helped the Freshman Eight qualify for nationals for the first time in school history and also took third at Counties and third at the Mainland Erg Competition. Following year was the first sophomore to earn a seat on the Varsity Eight boat...Also captured second at the Philadelphia Erg Championships, second at Mainland erg competition, and 20th at Crash B's in Boston...As a junior, helped her team to first place at the Brigantine Greenheads sprints, first place at the mainland erg competition, placed second at counties and first at states...Also received the "Hammer Award" for having the best time on the team...In her senior season, took first place Brigantine Greenhead Sprints in the team and individual championships...third at states, second at counties, fourth at cities....Varsity Scholar, and high honor roll member 2007-2011 who graduated in the top 10% of her class...Member of the national honor society (historian)...Plans to major in physical therapy.
