NORFOLK, Va. -- Rising redshirt junior Jonathan Plisco (Newport News, Va.) was named to the Punter Watch List by the College Football Performance Awards.
The purpose of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
Plisco has already been recognized as one of the top FCS members of special teams by The Sports Network and was named to Lindy's 2011 Defense Second-Team All-FCS Preseason Team.
Ranked second among FCS punters averaging 44.30 yards per punt in 2010, Plisco missed being the top FCS punter for the second straight year by .05 yards. He made 43 punts to total 1905 yards with 17 of his punts going a distance of 50-yards or more. He had a season-high 75 yard punt against #12/13 William & Mary and averaged over 50 yards a punt in games with Campbell, #12/13 William & Mary, and #14/16 Cal Poly. Of the left footer's punts, 13 were inside the opponent 20 and eight were for a touchback.
Plisco is the sixth Monarch to be named to a College Football Performance Award Watch List. Thomas DeMarco was named to the quarterbacks watch list in mid-May, while Prentice Gill was named to the wide receivers watch list, Ronnie Cameron was added to the defensive tackle watch list, Craig Wilkins listed on the linebackers watch list, and Jarod Brown placed on the placekickers list in the month of June.
As the 2011 season approaches, College Football Performance Awards will be releasing a preseason watch list each week from now until pre-season. For more information on the College Football Performance Awards, click here.
