KINGSTON, RI-- ODU's rising junior and two-time All-CAA golfer Samantha Morrell (North Kingstown, RI.) successfully defended her title in the Ocean State Women'sGolf Championship Thursday, defeating Ali Prazak (Campbell) , 3 and 2, at the Laurel Lane Golf course.

Morrell, the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2010 becomes just the third player in OSWGA history to successfully defend the title. Previously, Valerie Blinn and Becky Mailloux both did it. In fact, both won three years in a row, Mailloux beginning in 1997, Blinn in 2003. Prazak's loss extends the streak of not having the medalist take the title since Mailloux did it in 1999.

Early in the month Morrell played in the Women's Amatuer qualifier at Echo LakeCountry Club in Westfield, NJ, but did not make the cut.

This past season, Morrell was named second team All-CAA for the second straight year as she finished second at the Great Smokies Tournament, fourth at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate, sixth at the Tina Barrett and 11th at the CAA Championships. As a freshman, Morrell was the CAA's Rookie of the Year.
