CAA Leading ODU Sweeps Delaware Wiith 7-4 Win

NEWARK, DE- Old Dominion pounded out 17 hits as junior shortstop Josh Wright scored three times and went four-for four to lead the Monarchs to a 7-4 CAA win over Delaware. The Monarchs sweep the series and remain in first place in the CAA with a 24-20 overall record and a 16-8 League mark.

In the third inning Joey Burney (Gloucester, VA.) was picked-off in a run down between first and second.

In the fourth inning Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, Va. )tripled home Edgar Hernandez (Liquillo, PR), and Brent Frazier's (Fairfax Station, VA.) bunt single scored Shelton from third. Shawn Sizemore (Newport News, VA.) finished the scoring with a double to score Frazier and Josh Wright.

In the sixth inning Josh Wright scored from third on a wild pitch, and in the eighth Ty Yesensky (Endwell, NY) singled in Frazier.

The Fightin' Blue Hens got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Pat Dameron belted his fifth homerun of the year with Hank Yates aboard.

Delaware scored again in the eighth when DJ Long singled in Aaron Mascoe and Long later scored on Dave Ulaky's RBI ground.

Besides Wright, Brent Frazier and Stoneback had three hits each. Junior righthander Phil McCarthy (Chesapeake,VA.) picked up his seventh win of the season. He pitched seven plus innings allowing four runs, with just one walk. Freshman Dean Ali (Chesapeake, VA.) pitched the eighth and senior Adam Wisniewski (Norfolk, Va.) picked up his CAA leading 12th save of the year.

Delaware was led by Pat Dameron and Dave Anderson, both with two hits on the day.

Wright is now batting .377 with a .735 slugging percentage. In CAA games, Wright is hitting .471 with an .851 slugging percentage.
