NORFOLK, VA-- Chris Baker knocked in three runs, Nate Hartman two and Kyle Hald won his eighth game of the year as Old Dominion (25-21/17-8) kept its hold on first place in the CAA with a 10-5 victory over UNC Wilmington (27-23/15-10) Friday night. In the other CAA game JMU remains in second with their win over Towson tonight.

Hald, a senior lefthander and CAA strikeout leader fanned eight, gave up six hits and five runs in six innings to improve his record to 8-2.Freshman Dean Ali and senior Adam Wisniewski pitched the final three innings without allowing a run. Both Ali and Wisniewski fanned three batters each.

UNCW took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan LeGrange which scored Hunter Ridge.

ODU scored three in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by Nathan Hartman's two-run single which scored Josh Wright and Shawn Sizemore.

The Monarchs added three in the fifth on a Seahawk error and sacrifice fly RBI's from Sizemore and Joey Burney. Brandon Shelton, Brent Frazier and Josh Wright each scored for the Monarchs in that frame.

In the sixth inning, junior firstbaseman Chris Baker slammed a three-run homer with Frazier and Wright aboard which gave the Monarchs a 9-3 lead.Baker now has seven homers on the season and 50 RBI on the season.

ODU had 12 hits on the night led by Hartman, Josh Tutwiler and Shawn Sizemore with two each, Josh Wright scored three times.

UNCW scored two in the sixth with one out as Thomas Pope doubled home Andrew Cainand LeGrange followed with an RBI single to score Pope, but ODU got out of the inning on a outstanding double play started by shortstop Josh Wright.

UNCW was led by Thomas Pope with two hits and three RBI, and Ryan LeGrange with two RBI on the night.

In pre-game, Josh Wright was presented the Ralph Guzzo Award by the ChesapeakeAthletic Club as the Monarchs outstanding player. Former ODU basketball great BillyMann ('83) threw out the first pitch of the game.

The two teams play again on Saturday at 4 p.m.
