Elon Defeats ODU, 8-2

NORFOLK, VA--Harry Austin and Niko Fraser knocked in two runs each to lead the Phoenix of Elon (34-18) to an 8-2 victoryover Old Dominion (24-21) Monday night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex, ending ODU's five-game winning streak.

The Monarchs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Shawn Sizemore's (Newport News, Va. ) two-run single in the first inning which knocked in BrentFrazier (Fairfax Station, VA) and CAA co-Player of the Week Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.).

With the score 2-2, Elon took the lead for good in the fifth on a sacrifice fly RBI by Fraser which scored Garrett Koster.The Phoenix then scored three more in the sixth on an ODU error, an RBI groundout by Grant McCoury and RBI doubleby Harry Austin.

Fraser finished the night with two hits and two runs batted in, while Austin had three hits in four trips to the plate alongwith two runs batted in for Elon. Garrett Koster added two hits and scored three times for the Phoenix.

Elon starter David Whitehead picked up his sixth win of the season as he fanned four and allowed four hits with threewalks in six innings. Greg Amorosso and Grant McCoury pitched the final three innings. At one stretch, they held ODU hitlessafter Nate Hartman's (Orlando, FL.) single in the fourth until Ty Yesensky's (Endwell, NY.) single with two outs in the eighth inning.

Edgar Hernandez (Luquillo, PR) led the Monarchs with two hits on the evening. Josh Wright, Shawn Sizemore, and Hartman each hadone hit.

The Monarchs return to CAA play this weekend when they host UNC Wilmington in a three-game series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. The Seahawks are tied for secondwith James Madison.
