Tennis Opens CAA Tournament Play on Friday

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University men's and women's tennis will compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament this week, starting Friday when both teams play Friday at 8:30 a.m. The Monarchs are the No. 5 seed and play William and Mary while the Lady Monarchs are also the No. 5 seed and play UNC Wilmington.

The men's squad finished the regular-season with a 16-9 overall record and 3-3 mark in CAA play.

The Monarchs are led by senior Tobias Fanselow who finished the regular season with a 21-4 mark. Krzysztof Muzalewski finished second on the team with a 19-5 record while Albert Ochagavia was 18-6 on the season.

Fanselow and Muzalewski put together a 19-5 record at No. 1 doubles while Ochagavia and Alfredo Rodriguez went 13-7 on the year at No. 3 doubles.

This year marks the first time in school history the Monarchs are the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament. ODU is 19-14 all-time in the CAA Tournament.

The Lady Monarchs are the No. 5 seed for the second time in school history. They were the five seed in 200 and defeated American in the first round before falling to top seed William and Mary.

The Lady Monarchs are led by Joanna Dobrowolska who leads the team with a 17-5 record, while Diana Ivanova and Melissa Esnal Olguin each have 11 wins.

Dobrowolska and Esnal Olguin are 10-7 as a doubles team at No. 1 while Ivanova and Juliana Pires are a combined 12-6, as they saw time at all three spots.

The first round Thursday morning for both the men's and women's action.
