ELON, NC--Three Elon (25-14) pitchers combined on a five-hitter for a 13-0 victory Wednesday night over Old Dominion (19-19).
Elon outfielder Eric Serra knocked in three runs on two hits, while catcher Anthony Hezar,third baseman Ben Scott and Harry Austin each knocked in two runs. Second baseman Ryan Kinsella had two hits for Elon and he scored twice along with Serra. The Phoenix had 12 hits on the night.
Grant McCoury (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing just three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Grant Fisher pitched two innings and Mitch Conner pitched the ninth for the shutout.
Brandon Shelton(Chesapeake, VA.), Brent Frazier (Fairfax Station, VA.) Ty Yesensky (Endwell, NY.) , Brandon Stahl (E. Norwich, NY.) and Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.) got one hit each for ODU. Frazier's hit was a double in the third inning.
The Monarchs return to action this weekend when they host George Mason in a three-game CAA series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
