Hartman Throw To The Plate Leads ODU Over Georgia State, 4-3

ATLANTA, GA-- Old Dominion (19-18/11-7) senior rightfielder Nate Hartman threw out a Georgia State (27-11/8-7) runner at the plate in the bottom of the ninth to give the Monarchs a 4-3 CAA victory over the Panthers Sunday afternoon at the Pantherville Baseball Complex . The win also gives ODU five straight CAA series victories.

ODU took the 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth. With one out in the eighth, junior shortstop Joey Burney's fly ball was dropped the Panther rightfielder Ryan Fleming and Wright scored from second to give the Monarchs the lead, 4-3.

The Monarchs scored first in the third inning when Josh Wright singled home Brent Frazier, followed by an RBI double by Chris Baker to bring home Wright.

Nathan Hartman belted his third homer of the season, two-out solo shot in the fourth inning, and ODU led 3-0.

GSU tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on Maxwell's RBI single, then Maxwell scored on and ODU error and Lind came home to tie the game from third on a fielder's choice.

In the bottom of the ninth Carter Sacket led off with a single and Bryan Condatta walked. The two were moved up on a sacrifice. Brett Maxwell then filed out to Nate Hartman in right and Hartman then threw out pinch runner Wes Grant on one hop to catcher Josh Tutwiler at the plate to end the game.

Phil McCarthy (5-3) picked up the win and senior Adam Wisniewski got his CAA leading 10th save of the Year. McCarthy pitched seven innings with four walks and nine strikeouts.

Brent Frazier led ODU with two hits, while Rob Lind and Drew Shields each had two hits for Georgia State.

ODU travels to Elon Wednesday night.
