NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs (17-17/9-6) hit the road to Atlanta, Ga., for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against the Panthers of Georgia State (26-9/7-5).
Because of a threat of storms in the Atlanta area,Friday nights game has been moved up to 2:30 p.m. as the Monarchs will throw lefthanderKyle Hald (5-2/ 2.78 ERA). GSU will counter with the CAA's top winner, Will Campbell (6-0/2.91 ERA).
The Panthers have three of the CAA's top 10 hitters in Brandon Williams (.379),Mark Micowski (.366) and Brett Maxwell (.363), while Ryan Fleming is third in theCAA in homers with 11. On the mound and in addition to Campbell, the Panthers willhave Charley Olson (3-3/3.59 ERA) and Justin Malone (5-0/4.53 ERA).
Junior shortstop Josh Wright continues to lead ODU with a .328 batting average along with 10 homers and 31 runs scored along with 13 stolen bases. Chris Bakeris hitting .299 and leads the team with 35 RBI along with six homers and a team best 14 doubles. He is tied with JMU's David Hrbek for the CAA lead in doubles, andranks fourth in RBI's. Wright is second in the CAA in triples with four.
Kyle Hald and Ben Tomcick are tied with DJ Brown of JMU, Justin Malone of GSU forsecond in wins in the CAA. Senior Adam Wisniewski leads the CAA with nine saves, while freshman Dean Ali has the best ERA inthe circuit at 1.35.
ODU leads the series, 9-8 with GSU winning two of three last year in Norfolk.
