Wright Homers In ODU's 8-3 Loss To Richmond

NORFOLK, VA--The Richmond Spiders (10-10-2) scored seven runs in the final three innings to defeat Old Dominion, 8-3 Tuesday evening at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

ODU starter, senior right hander Joe Haumacher (Middlesex, NJ.) pitched six solid innings with only one run allowed. The Monarchs led 2-1 after six on an RBI single by Shawn Sizemore (Newport News, Va.) in the fourth which plated Brian Bashara (Norfolk, VA.) and a solo homerun by Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) in the sixth.

The Spiders rallied with four in the seventh highlighted by a two-run single by Billy Barber. Richmond pounded out 15 hits on the evening led by Mike Small and Phil Ruzbarsky with three each, while Matt Zink, Mike Mergenthaler, and Brett Williams had two hits each.

Williams pitched 8-plus innings for Richmond, striking out five, walking no one to improve his record To 3-0 on the season.

Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, VA.) and Edgar Hernandez (Luquillo, PR) led ODU with two hits each.The Monarchs added a run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single by Shelton which scored Brent Frazier(Fairfax Station, VA.).

ODU returns to CAA play this weekend when they travel to Harrisonburg, VA to take on the Dukes Of James Madison, beginning Friday.
