Monarchs Host Fairfield In Four-Game Series Beginning Friday

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs (5-4) host the Stags from Fairfield University (2-2) of the MAAC in a four-game series at Bud Metheny Complex. Game oneof the series is Friday at 3 p.m.

ODU is led offensively by junior first baseman Christopher Baker who leads the team in hits (12), RBI (11), doubles (5) and home runs (2). Junior Brent Frazier leads the team in batting average (.355) and is second in hits (11).

Fairfield, from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, comes into the matchup winning their last two games against Colonial Athletic Association opponent William and Mary. They are led by senior Tucker Nathans who is top ten all-time in career hits (201), doubles (45), triples (7), batting average (.354), slugging percentage (.532) and RBI (120). Joining Nathans is the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year Anthony Hajjar, who looks to jumpstart his season after recording only one hit so far.

Preseason All-CAA pitcher Kyle Hald (1-0, 0.60 era) will be on the mound for the Monarchs on Friday to start the series. Junior righthander Ben Tomchick (2-0, 2.19 ERA) will pitch on Saturday. ODU's team earned run average is 3.04 thus farthis season.

Junior pitcher Brett Shulick (0-0, 1.29 era) is expected to start Friday for the Stags.

Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. and Sunday's single game also begins at1 p.m.

After the weekend matchup with Fairfield, the Monarchs host Penn State for a two-game series starting Mar. 8.
