PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Old Dominion women's basketball team, winners of three straight and five of its last six, will travel to Philadelphia Wednesday to take on Drexel in the regular season finale for both teams. The Lady Monarchs could finish anywhere from first to third in the Colonial Athletic Association standings.
The contest, set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Daskalakis Athletic Center, can be heard on ESPN Radio 94.1 with Tony Mercurio on the play-by-play and Jen Nuzzo providing color analysis.
Old Dominion (20-8, 14-3 CAA) can capture a share of the CAA regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a win Wednesday coupled with a James Madison loss to UNC Wilmington. If the Dukes top the Seahawks, the Lady Monarchs will be the No. 2 seed regardless of the outcome in their game against the Dragons.
Drexel (17-11, 9-8 CAA) has won four of its last five games, including a pair of road games last week. The Dragons have been tough at home this year, posting an 11-2 mark at the DAC.
Junior Kamile Nacickaite leads Drexel and is ranked fourth in the CAA scoring 17.8 points per game. The guard also averaged 6.3 rebounds a contest and is fifth in the nation shooting 45.7 percent from beyond the arc.
As a team Drexel shoots 41.7 percent from three, which ranks second in the country. Old Dominion counters with the nations fourth best three-point field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to just 25.3 percent shooting from downtown.
Both squads rank in the Top 5 in the CAA in scoring defense with Drexel maintaining the top spot, holding its foes to just 57.2 points per game. The Lady Monarchs have limited their opponents to 60.6 points a contest, which ranks fifth in the league.
Old Dominion is 15-3 all-time against Drexel, including a 69-59 home win last year. Jasmine Parker scored 22 points and Jackie Cook netted a then career-high 14 points in the Lady Monarch victory.
Parker enters Wednesday just eight assists shy of cracking the Top 10 all-time at ODU in career assists. The Norfolk native has 362 career dimes.
