CHARLESTON, SC--Grant Richards knocked in two runs in the eighth inning to lead the Bulldogsof The Citadel to a 4-3 victory over Old Dominion Sunday Afternoon in the final game of theHomewood Suites Shootout. ODU is now 5-4 on the season.

The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Josh Wright scored on a wild pitch from thirdBase. In the fourth inning Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, VA.) led off with a walk, then Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.) doubled. NathanHartman's (Orlando, Fl.) fielder's choice plated Shelton to give ODU a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by William Ladd. In the seventhODU went up 3-1 on Kenny Stoneback's (Colonial Heights, VA.) RBI single which scored Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.). The Citadel madeit 3-2 on Brad Felder's RBI ground out.

In the eighth with two outs, and the bases loaded, Richards singled to left field to knock in HughstonArmstrong and Drew Dekerlegand to take the lead.

In the ODU ninth Nathan Hartman and Edgar Hernandez (Luquillo, PR) singled with one out, but reliever DrewMahaffey got the next two outs and the save for The Citadel.

Five different Monarchs, Chris Baker, Nathan Hartman, Edgar Hernandez, Kenny Stoneback and Brent Frazier (Fairfax Station, VA) each got one hit. ODU's pitchers limited the Bulldogs to six hits. ODU freshman starterDean Ali (Chesapeake, VA. )fanned six with only one walk in six innings of work.

The Monarchs return home for a four-game series with Fairfield beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
