Kyle Hald Pitches ODU Over Wright State

CHARLESTON, SC--Old Dominion University senior Kyle Hald (Springfield, VA.) scattered three hits and struck out eight to lead the Monarchs to a 3-2 victory over Wright State in the first game of the Homewood Suites Shootout at Riley Park. ODU is now 4-2 on the season.

ODU took a 1-0 lead in the first as junior first baseman Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.) doubled home leftfielder Donnie Corsner(Virginia Beach, VA.), that hit extended Baker's hitting streak to 34 games. Kennesaw State's Ronnie Freeman got his 34th game on Wednesday against Jacksonville and extended it to 35 on Friday night with a single in the first inningagainst Memphis.

Wright State tied the game in the third as Ryan Ashe scored on an ODU error. In the fifth inning ODUtook the lead for good as Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) doubled home catcher Josh Tutwiler (Bridgewater, VA.). In the sixthrightfielder Nathan Hartman (Orlando, Fl. )singled home Chris Baker to make it 3-1. Wright State added a run in the seventh when Corey Davis scored from third on a wild pitch.

Senior Adam Wisniewski (Norfolk, Va.) came on in the ninth to pick up his third save of the season.Baker led ODU with two hits in four at bats on the day while Ryan Ashe led Wright State with two hits as well.

Hald, an All-CAA selection last year is now 1-0 with a 0.60 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 15 innings of work.

ODU will play Wright State again on Saturday at 11 a.m. then play The Citadel at 4 p.m.
