Bazemore Shoots Monarchs Past Delaware, 67-59

NORFOLK, Va. - Kent Bazemore scored 13-straight points, including a three-pointer with less than two minutes to play. The Monarchs put Delaware away by making six-straight free throws to make the final score 67-59. A crowd of 8,042 were in attendance which is the seventh crowd over 8,000 this yearat the Constant Center.

Delaware took its first lead of the game with 12 minutes to play in the second half on a layup by D.J. Boney and stretched the lead to as many as six points.

Bazemore would then takeover as he gave the lead back to ODU on a pair of free throws and a layup, but the Blue Hens retook the lead on a foul shot by Kelvin McNeil.

Bazemore quickly responded with another three to give ODU a 59-57 lead.ODU made all six of its free throw attempts in the final minute and made their last 11 attempts of the game.

Old Dominion grabbed control of the first half by going on a 10-0 run and holding Delaware scoreless for more than five minutes to take a 22-12 lead. Bazemore and Keyon Carter each had four points in the run.

The Monarchs held onto the 10-point advantage going into halftime as Darius James hit a runner with eight seconds remaining to take a 30-20 lead.

Delaware went on an 8-0 run to get back into the game and tied the score at 40 on a three-pointer by Jawan Carter.

Bazemore led the Monarchs with 20 points and five assists, 16 points coming in the second half. He also had four steals to maintain the conference lead in that category at 2.3 per game. Frank Hassell recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 boards. James chipped in 10 points and four assists. Both Hassell and Cooper blocked three shots tonight.

Devon Saddler led Delaware with 19 points while Kelvin McNeil had 13 and Carter chipped in 11. Both Saddler and Jamelle Hagins had six rebounds, as ODU outrebounded UD, 38-30, but the Fightin' Blue Hens hauled down 11 offensive rebounds, scoring 14 second chance points.

ODU shot .435 (24-53) from the field, while Delaware finished .429 (24-56). Bothteams committed only nine turnovers each.

At halftime the television crews and on-air talent Xzibit from ABC's Extremem Makeover:Home edition were on site at the Constant Center.

The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fairfax, Va. to takeon the Patriots of George Mason in a 2 p.m. contest.
