VCU won the series opener, 59-50 at the Constant Center back on Jan. 22nd.

ODU won two of three against the Rams last year, including the CAA semi-final game.

ODU 73,VCU 69 (overtime)

CAA Semi-Finals

Old Dominion overcame a 12-point second half deficit and senior Gerald Lee scored a career-high tying 26 points in a thrilling 73-69 overtime win against VCU in the semifinals of the 2010 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan CAA Men's Basketball Championships Sunday afternoon. The game was played in front of a sell-out crowd of 11,200 fans at the Richmond Coliseum. VCU led 52-40, but Marsharee Neely's put-back with 2:46 left capped the Monarchs rally to tie the game at 60-60, then Gerald Lee tied it again to send the

Contest to overtime at 62. In the overtime a Bazemore steal gave the Monarchs its first lead, 68-60 and

ODU hung on from their for the win.

Feb. 17,2008

ODU 67, VCU 66

Siegel Center

Seniors Brian Henderson and Brandon Johnson accounted for ODU's final eight points in the last 1:59 of the game to lead ODU to a come-from-behind, 67-66 victory over CAA archrival VCU Saturday night on ESPN2. This was the Monarchs first ever win in the Siegel Center and third straight win overall.

VCU took a six point lead (63-57) with 2:10 left in the game as it looked like the Rams were going to beat ODU for the ninth straight time in the city of Richmond. But the ODU seniors had a different idea. Brandon Johnson gets a steal and is fouled. Johnson calmly hits both to put ODU up, 64-63 with 1:05 left. After another VCU turnover, Brian Henderson nails another trey to give the Monarchs a 67-63 lead with just 16 seconds left. VCU's Jamal Shuler hits a three to cut the lead to one at 67-66. VCU fouled freshman Darius James and he missed both free throws with seven seconds left. Maynor tries to take it to the basket, but is stripped by Brandon Johnson (The CAA Defender of the Year).

CAA Player of the Year Alex Loughton scored six of his 28 points in

Overtime and ODU hit 12 of 13 free throws in the extra period for the win.

VCU trailed by 11 several times early in the second half, but fought back

With a 14-2 run to take a 40-39 lead with 11:51 remaining. ODU came back

as the lead changed hands eight more times in the final 2:30 minutes of

regulation.

Jan. 21, 2004

VCU 75, ODU 67

Constant Center

The Monarchs fell to VCU, 75-67 decision at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Alex Loughton (Perth, Australia) led Monarch scorers with 17 points, and added 11 rebounds for a double-double.

The first half was marked by nine lead changes, and neither team was able to able to grab higher than a four-point lead. Alex Loughton's jumper to gave the Monarchs the 20-17 lead by the 7:49 mark, and held a 25-21 lead--off a Hunter three-pointer--by the 6:51 mark, but the Rams were able to pull the game to within one point by the 4:41 mark of the half, 28-27, after Troy Godwin connected on a lay-up, and grabbed the lead, 29-28, off a Derrick Reid jumper half a minute later. T.J. Waldon (Lakeland, FL) hit a lay-up to give ODU the 30-29 advantage. Down 33-32 with 1:41 remaining, Valdas Vasylius (Klaipeda, Lithuania) connected on a jumper to give the Monarchs the 34-33 halftime lead.

Isaiah Hunter scored the first points of the second half, as he dunked the ball to give the Monarchs the 36-33 lead with 19:28 left in the game. By the 18:06 mark, ODU was leading 40-35 after Alex Loughton connected on a jumper, but a Troy Godwin jumper and a made free throw cut the lead down to two points, 40-38, with 17:54 remaining. The lead was back up to five, 45-40, by the 16:05 mark, as Loughton was good on a lay-up attempt, but a subsequent dunk by Troy Godwin and a jumper by Jesse Pellot-Rosa cut the advantage down to just one point, 45-44, with 15:16 left in the game. VCU then went on a 8-0 run to grab a 58-56 lead with 8:18 left in the game. VCU was led by Derrick Reid's three points and Michael Doles' five points in the run. Loughton tied the game up at 58 with a layup, but with 2:54 left in the game, VCU took their largest lead of the game to that point, five points, 66-61, with Domonic Jones capping off the 8-3 Rams run. The Monarchs came back to within two points of VCU, 66-64, with just over a minute left in the game, but ODU was unable to get any closer as Michael Doles drained a three-pointer with 33 seconds left in the game. Six Rams' free-throws closed out a hard-fought game, with VCU winning 75-67.

Sun Belt Conference Final in Hampton, VA.

VCU 87, ODU 82

A day after ODU rallied from 19 down with 9 minutes left against UAB in

the semi-finals, VCU and ODU battled to what many considered the best

League final ever. There were numerous lead changes In the game. Rolando

Lamb led VCU with 21 points and Calvin Duncan added 18, while was led

by Mark Davis with 23 and Kenny Gattison with 21 points. ODU shot .627 (37-59)

from the floor, while VCU shot .588 (30-51) from the field, Both teams advance

to the NCAA.

Feb. 1, 2003

VCU 72, ODU 69

Constant Center

In front of a sellout crowd of 8418. ODU bolted out to a lead of as many as 13

(31-18) with 3:04 left in the first half, but VCU cut it to four at halftime, 33-29.

In the second half VCU led by as many as 12, 66-54 with 5:53 left, but the Monarchs

Rallied and tied the game with 1:38 left at 67. Ricardo Marsh answered with

A basket with 44 seconds left to make it 70-69 VCU. After a VCU miss, Ricardo

Marsh came down and was called for a charge with 3 seconds left. Willie Taylor

Then scored as time ran out for a 72-69 victory for the Rams. Marsh led ODU with

28 points, while Dominic Jones led VCU with 19 points and 9 rebounds.

March 18, 1993

ODU 74-68

NIT first round

The two teams had met earlier in the season with ODU winning. ODU led most of the

Game and took an 11-point lead with 8:55 left at 63-52. The Rams fought back to

ODU 72-71 in overtime

The teams split two earlier games during the season with ODU winning 70-68

in the finals of the Richmond Times Dispatch Tournament as Ronnie Valentine

scored 23 for the Monarchs. VCU then won in Norfolk, 95-87.

VCU had the lead and the ball in overtime with five seconds left, but couldn't get

The ball in bounds and got a 5 second call. ODU's Tommy Conrad hit the jumper

at the buzzer for ODU's win. Tommy Branch (Adrian's brother) led ODU with

19 points and 13 rebounds. Dana Kirk was VCU's head coach.

ODU coached by Paul Webb would later that year reach the NIT quarterfinals, beating

Wagner coached by PJ Carlissimo at home, then Clemson at Clemson in double

overtime, before losing at Purdue led by Joe Barry Carroll.
