RICHMOND, Va. -- ODU senior lefthander Kyle Hald has been named to the ColonialAthletic Association's pre-season All-Conference squad as selected by the league'shead coaches. Junior firstbaseman Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.) was named honorable mention.
Hald was a first team All-CAA and ABCA All-District selection in 2010 as he led theleague with 95 strikeouts, 42 of them looking. He tied for the CAA lead with eightwins (8-4), ranked second in innings pitched with 100 and fourth in the league witha 2.79 ERA. Opposing hitters had a .262 batting average against him which was ninthin the CAA. He also tossed shutouts against LaSalle and George Mason.
Chris Baker hit .369 with eight homers and 51 RBI last year. He was second on theteam with 18 doubles and had a .644 slugging percentage.
Georgia State senior outfielder Mark Micowski was selected as the 2011 CAA baseball preseason Player of the Year.
Micowski earned first-team All-CAA honors in 2010 after batting .390 with five home runs and 40 RBI in his first year with the Panthers. He led the CAA with 69 runs scored, was tied for second in hits (91) and ranked fourth in stolen bases (17).
Micowski was one of three Georgia State players chosen to the preseason All-CAA baseball team. He was joined by junior third baseman Brandon Williams (.408, 10 HR, 73 RBI) and senior outfielder Ryan Fleming (.375, 13 HR, 59 RBI). James Madison also had three players recognized on the preseason squad - junior catcher Jake Lowery (.285, 8 HR, 41 RBI), senior second baseman Trevor Knight (.360, 13 HR, 45 RBI) and senior shortstop David Herbek (.304, 7 HR, 47 RBI).
George Mason and VCU each had a pair of players selected to the team. Representing the Patriots were junior utility player Brig Tison (.367, 3 HR, 33 RBI) and senior designated hitter Shane Davis (.283, 9 HR, 45 RBI). Making the squad from the Rams were junior first baseman Brent Mikionis (.343, 11 HR, 54 RBI) and senior relief pitcher Jonathan Watson (4-2, 2.51 ERA).
Rounding out the preseason All-CAA team were Delaware senior outfielder Pat Dameron (.353, 14 HR, 59 RBI), Old Dominion senior starting pitcher Kyle Hald (8-4, 2.79 ERA, 95 K's) and William and Mary junior starting pitcher Matt Davenport (8-2, 1.96 ERA, 88 K's).
