NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's basketball team will be looking for its sixth consecutive win and legendary head coach Wendy Larry will be seeking her 600th career victory as the Lady Monarchs welcome Colonial Athletic Association rival VCU to the Ted Constant Center Thursday.
The contest, set for a 7 p.m. tip, will be broadcast on WSKY (Channel 4 in the Hampton Roads area) and Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus. John Castleberry will be on the play-by-play and Cal Bowdler will be providing color analysis. The game can also be heard on ESPN Radio 94.1 FM with play-by-play provided by Tony Mercurio and color analysis from Susan Montgomery.
Larry, now in her 27th season overall and 24th at the helm of the Lady Monarchs, currently has a 599-228 career coaching record. She is 550-197 at Old Dominion.
Amongst active Division I head coaches, Larry is 12th in terms of all-time victories and with her next win she'll be just the 20th coach all-time in Division I to reach the 600-win plateau.
The Lady Monarchs, winners of seven of their last eight, currently sit atop the CAA standings with an 11-5 overall record and a perfect 5-0 league mark.
Old Dominion is coming off a 62-59 road win at Delaware Sunday in which senior guard Kquanise Byrd hit for a career-high 22 points en route to being named the CAA Player of the Week.
The Lady Monarchs have been tough to beat at home this season, posting a 7-1 mark in games played at the Ted Constant Center. Virginia Commonwealth (9-6, 4-1 CAA) was victorious though the last time they played in Norfolk, giving ODU its biggest home CAA loss ever at the Ted (75-56) on Feb. 7, 2010.
The Rams have won five of their last six games and are currently in a three-way tie with James Madison and UNC Wilmington for second-place in the league standings.
Courtney Hurt leads the Rams and is second in the nation in scoring at 24.1 points per game. The junior forward also averages a CAA-best 13.3 rebounds per contest.
Tickets remain for Thursday's contest and fans are reminded that children will be admitted free to the game with the purchase of an adult ticket. For more information, contact the Athletic Ticket office at 683-4444.
Additionally, rally towels sponsored by Optima Health will be given out at their sponsor table in the lobby of the Ted Constant Center prior to the game while supplies last.
