NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior captains April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.) and Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) were named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimmers of the Week following their performances in wins over George Washington last weekend.
The Old Dominion men's swimming team picked up nine first place finishes in its 142-106 win over George Washington on Saturday led by Ramkvist with top times in the 100 and 200 back. Ramkvist, a senior tri-captain who helped the Monarchs improve to 4-0 on the year, swam to a first place time of 52.69 in the 100 back and picked up his second event win of the afternoon with a time of 1:57.56 in the 200 back.
The Lady Monarchs had eight first place finishes in the 139-115 win over George Washington led by two-time CAA backstroke champion Barrientos. Barrientos, a senior co-captain who helped the Lady Monarchs improve to 5-3 on the year, won both the 100 and 200 back for the Lady Monarchs. She was the only competitor to finish the 100 back in under a minute clocking in at 57.97. Barrientos later won the 200 back with a time of 2:07.94.
Next up for the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs is the annual training trip taking place this year down in Fort Myers, Florida at the end of December.
