RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Jasmine Parker tallied a team-high 13 points, but that was one of the lone bright spots in a 65-43 Old Dominion loss at Richmond Sunday afternoon. The Lady Monarchs never led in the contest and failed to score in the final three minutes after cutting the deficit to just 10.

Old Dominion (4-4) shot just 27.3 percent from the floor and went 1-of-12 from beyond the arc. ODU scored just 18 first half points, its lowest effort in any half this season.

Richmond (6-4) was led by senior Brittani Shells, who registered a game-high 23 points. The win was the Spiders first against the Lady Monarchs in their last 22 tries.

Shells, the 16th leading scorer in the nation (21.0 ppg), scored the first seven points of the game to give Richmond an early spark. A Kristina Puthoff-King triple put the Spiders up 17-8 midway through the opening half.

Old Dominion stormed back with a 6-0 run that was capped with a Jackie Cook lay-in, cutting the Richmond lead to just three (17-14). The Spiders closed the half strong from that point, outscoring ODU 13-4 down the stretch to go into the intermission with a 30-18 advantage.

Richmond continued to light it up early in the second half, netting the first nine points of the stanza to go up 39-18 less than four minutes in.

Trailing 44-25 at the 11:19 mark, Old Dominion put forth one last momentum swing, going on an 18-9 run that concluded with a Jo Guilford jumper that cut the lead to 10.

The Lady Monarchs would not score for the remainder of the game though and Richmond posted the final 12 points to cruise to the win.

Senior Shadasia Green pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds for the Lady Monarchs and freshman Shakeva Richards registered season-highs in points (5) and blocked shots (3).

Old Dominion will have next week off for exams before returning home on December 21 to battle Stony Brook. The game will tip at 7 p.m. at the Constant Center.
