HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Day one of swimming and diving's pod meet has the ODU men's swimming & diving team leading William & Mary and the College of Charleston, while the ODU women's swimming & diving squad is ahead in the point standings against two of the four teams the Lady Monarchs are competing against.
The ODU men's swimming & diving team leads the College of Charleston, 157-42, and conference rival William & Mary, 149-55.
The ODU women's swimming & diving team, meanwhile, hold a 160-43 advantage over the College of Charleston and a 106-99 edge over Northeastern, but trails William & Mary 103-100 and host James Madison 111-94.
The Lady Monarchs won four of the 11 events on day one of the pod meet. Senior April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.), junior Erla Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland), and sophomore Jessica Hubert (Newport News, Va.) each captured a win with the 400 medley relay team, as well as in an individual event.
The trio of Lady Monarchs, as well as junior Maddie Stiles (Fairfax, Va.), combined to help 400 medley relay squad swim to a first place time of 3:52.21.
Barrientos, meanwhile, captured first place in the 100 back (57.90), while Haraldsdottir posted the top time in the 100 breast (1:03.91), and Hubert swam to a first place finish in the 200 fly (2:05.22).
The ODU men meanwhile won all 11 events they competed in on day one.
Both relay teams picked up first place times. The 400 medley relay team of freshman Andrew Crockett (Toano, Va.), senior Josh Kinas (Resont, Va.), senior Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden), and junior Arni Arnason (Mosfellsbaer, Iceland) recorded a top time of 3:28.54, while the 200 free relay squad of Arnason, Crockett, junior Ryan Peart (Fort Washington, Pa.), and freshman Sidni Hoxha (Tirane, Albania) captured a first place time of 1:23.65.
Arnason, Ramkvist, Kinas, and Hoxha had additional first place times for the Monarchs. Arnaon was the top finisher in the 200 free (1:40.48), while Ramkvist hit the wall first in the 100 back (51.63), Kinas placed first in the 100 breast (58.92), and Hoxha claimed the 50 free (20.78).
Sophomore Jason Brame (Lynchburg, Va.) was another multiple event winner for the Monarchs. Brame took home the top times in both the 1650 free (16:25.97) and 400 IM (4:07.03).
Other winners for the Monarchs included freshman Daniel Camozzo (Herndon, Va.) in the 200 fly (1:56.30) and the ODU men's divers.
Senior David Skorupa (Richmond, Va.) had the top score in the men's 1 meter (296.90), while sophomore Dale Tornell (Springfield) took first in the men's 3 meter (246.15).
The pod meet concludes on Sunday.
