PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - For the fourth time this season and the sixth time in her career senior Loran Hatch tallied at least two goals, but it wasn't enough as the No. 19 Old Dominion field hockey team fell 3-2 at No. 20 Drexel Friday evening.
Hatch has now scored two or more goals in three straight games and is currently second in the CAA with 13 goals.
The loss snaps Old Dominion's five-game winning streak and gives the Lady Monarchs their first loss in Colonial Athletic Association play. ODU now sits in second in the league with a 6-7 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play.
Drexel, which got scores from three different players, improves to 9-3 on the year and 4-0 in CAA play.
Old Dominion's streak of holding opponents scoreless ended nine minutes into the game when Amanda Fleischut beat junior goalkeeper Devon Seifert. In total, ODU held its opponents without a goal for just over 302 consecutive minutes.
Drexel's Jen Cairone put the Dragons up 2-0 at the 17:49 mark, but the Lady Monarchs responded just before halftime as Hatch converted a pass from Kathryn Kirk on an ODU corner.
Old Dominion kept the momentum in the second half and Hatch tied the game in the 54th minute. Alyschia Conn and Paige Clutter picked up the assists on the second goal.
The game wasn't tied long though as Ashley Santee scored off a deflection in the 57th minute to give Drexel a 3-2 lead that it wouldn't relinquish.
ODU outshot the Dragons 15-12 and held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners. Seifert recorded a game-high five saves.
Old Dominion remains on the road Sunday at Hofstra. The game is set to get underway at 1 p.m.
