RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore forward Maartje van Rijswijk was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Additionally, the Old Dominion field hockey team moved up in the latest NFHCA Poll to No. 19.
Van Rijswijk (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded three scores last week to help lead ODU past league rivals James Madison and VCU. The Lady Monarchs are currently in first in the CAA with a 6-1 mark.
The sophomore forward posted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in the Lady Monarchs' win over the Rams and returned to the pitch to register another score as ODU downed the Dukes, 4-1.
Van Rijswijk has now scored in four consecutive contests and has tallied seven goals in the last four games. Her 12 goals on the year rank second on the squad and fifth in the CAA.
Crystal Poland of Northeastern shares the award with van Rijswijk. Poland scored three goals and dished out two assists on the week.
Van Rijswijk joins teammates Loran Hatch and Devon Seifert as the Lady Monarchs who have won CAA Player of the Week this season.
Van Rijswijk and the Lady Monarchs wrap up the regular season this weekend with a home game against No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday and a road trip to William & Mary on Sunday.
