NORFOLK, Va. - James Madison scored four goals after Old Dominion University women's soccer tied the score at one to take a 5-1 victory Sunday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
James Madison (12-6, 8-2) started the scoring early, with a goal in the 2nd minute by Lauren Wilson. Wilson received a long pass from Corinna Strickland to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead.
Old Dominion (4-11-1, 2-8) responded in the 23rd minute when Ashlee Coutu sent a tap pass to Meghan Cozens, who fed Kate Kelly with a through ball to the right side and fired a shot past the JMU keeper to tie the score at one. The goal was Kelly's third of the season and the assists were the firsts of the season for Cozens and Coutu.
The Dukes responded just two minutes later when Teresa Rynier fired a shot that deflected off an ODU defender and into the goal to put JMU up 2-1.
James Madison added another goal four minutes later on an unassisted goal by Amalya Clayton to take a 3-1 halftime lead.
JMU added second half goals from Yolie Anderson-Golhor and Dana O'Brien for the final 5-1 margin.
JMU outshot the Lady Monarchs 20-13 and held a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Jocelyn Weidner led ODU with three shots while JMU had four players finish with three apiece.
Diane Wszalek picked up the win in goal, making four saves while Brianna Alvarado made five stops for ODU and Laura Bush made two stops.
The Lady Monarchs travel to William & Mary on Saturday, Oct. 30 for the season finale starting at 7 p.m.
