BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Maartje van Rijswijk tallied a pair of goals to lead the Old Dominion field hockey team to a 2-0 shutout win over Northeastern in both squads CAA opener on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Monarchs (3-6, 1-0) have now won 15 consecutive CAA openers and back-to-back games for the first time this season. With the loss, Northeastern falls to 4-5 on the year.
Van Rijswijk's two strikes give the sophomore three goals on the season, which is good enough for second on the team. Paige Clutter picked up an assist on the first goal, while Kathryn Kirk was credited with the helper on the second.
ODU outshot the Huskies 13-11 and held a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
Current CAA Player of the Week, Devon Seifert, made a game-high six saves in the win.
Old Dominion will remain in Boston for a non-conference matchup against No. 11 Boston University on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
