RICHMOND, Va. (September 22, 2010) - Old Dominion's Samantha Morrell (North Kingstown, RI.) received CAA Women's Golfer of the Week after tying for second place at the Great Smokies Women's Collegiate .
The sophomore, from North Kingstown, R.I., led the Lady Monarchs carding 70-71--141. Morrell finished just one stroke back from the winner in the event for second place, earning her highest finish in collegiate play during her young career.
Morrell's 141 is a new school mark for 36 holes, besting the old record set by Ashley Davis (147) in the 2005 Springlake Invitationals. She also helped the team set a new ODU record low for a 36-hole score with 592, while ODU's 293 in the second round is also a best 18-hole round for the program.
Morrell was the CAA Rookie of the Year last season.
