GREENSBORO, N.C. - After a scoreless first half, UNC Greensboro scored two goals within a minute en route to a 3-1 win over Old Dominion University women's soccer Sunday afternoon in Greensboro.

UNCG (5-1-1) outshot ODU 6-2 in the first half, but Brianna Alvarado came up with two saves and the Lady Monarchs' defense came up with two as well.

In the 58th minute, the Spartans got on the board when Kristen Schmidbauer gathered a clear attempt and beat Alvarado from 20 yards out.

Just 55 seconds later UNCG struck again, this time Cat Barnekow sent a through ball to Lauren Hein who snuck a shot in the lower left corner to give the Spartans a two-goal lead.

The Lady Monarchs fought back in the 67th minute. Rachael Carroll sent in a free kick from midfield that Amber Cook headed past UNCG goalkeeper Kelsey Kearney. The goal is the third of the season for Cook and the fourth assist of the year by Carroll.

Just six minutes later UNCG added its third goal of the game when Jenn Partenheimer connected on a shot in the box, beating the ODU keeper to the right corner.

UNCG led in shots, 14-9 while ODU had more corners, 7-6. Jocelyn Weidner led ODU with three shots.

Alvarado finished the match with four saves while Kearney made one and Alex Perry made two.

ODU is back in action on Sept. 24 when they travel to George Mason in the CAA opener at 6 p.m.
