NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's soccer had several great scoring chances, but NC State goalkeeper Kim Kern made the only goal of the night stand, as the Lady Monarchs fell 1-0 Friday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium.

NC State (6-3) tallied the only goal of the night on a shot by Kara Blosser from 15 yards out off a header pass from Kristina Argiroff. Blosser's shot came from the middle of the field, beating the ODU keeper low and to the left.

Old Dominion (2-2-1) came out of halftime firing, as Victoria Johnson fired a shot that NC State keeper Kim Kern stopped and Kelsey Williams followed but her shot was deflected just wide.

Just a minute later, Williams got off another quality shot that Kern stopped as well as the follow by Kate Kelly.

In the 60th minute, the Wolfpack created an opportunity but Blosser's shot was stopped by Brianna Alvarado.

The Lady Monarchs did not go quietly, creating another chance in the 71st minute when Kirstin Walker sent a ball through to Ashlee Coutu, but Kern made yet another save.

In the 81st minute, Nikki Clarke sent a corner kick that went to the far post that Amber Cook got a foot on but Kern was able to make the diving save.

Old Dominion outshot NC State 17-13 and led in corner's 9-4.

Jocelyn Weidner and Williams had three shots apiece for ODU while Blosser had seven for the Wolfpack.

Kern finished the match with nine save while Alvarado made four stops.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Sunday as they travel to UNC Greensboro for a 2 p.m. match.
