NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion football coach Bobby Wilder has announced four additions to the preseason camp roster, including the transfer of Georgia Tech's Deron Jasper (Dunwoody, Ga.) to the Monarch program as a linebacker.
During his career with the Yellow Jackets, Jasper served a reserve in the secondary and as a member of the special teams unit. After redshirting his first season with Georgia Tech in 2006 , Jasper played in seven games on special teams and was credited with three tackles at safety as a redshirt freshman in 2007. He played in all 13 Yellow Jacket contests as a redshirt sophomore in 2008 making eight tackles, including six solo and a pass break-up. Last season, the Dunwoody, Georgia product appeared in eight games, recording four stops.
Scholastically, Jasper was a Honorable Mention All-State selection in Class AAA by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and First-Team All-County by the DeKalb Neighbor and the DeKalb County Coaches Association at Dunwoody High School. One of Scout.Com's Georgia Hot 100, he rushed for 400 yards and six touchdowns, returned a kickoff for a touchdown and made 70 tackles and three interceptions. Additionally, Jasper was the region champion in the 300-meter hurdles as a junior.
Also joining the Monarchs for preseason practice are redshirt freshman linebacker Nick Lanciault (Stafford, Va.), a former walk-on at Ole Miss, redshirt sophomore long snapper Jeff Black (Rochester, N.Y.), a transfer from the former Northeastern program, and freshman punter Orion Hall (Norfolk, Va.), a product of nearby Maury High School.
