Two Monarchs Earn VaSID All-State Honors

June 24, 2010

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association announced the 2009-10 All-State Men's Tennis Team, including two Monarchs. Juniors Tobias Fanselow and Benjamin Chomette earned Second Team Doubles honors while Fanselow was also named to the Second Team for Singles.

Fanselow was named to the Preseason Top 100 by the ITA and earned All-CAA honors in both singles and doubles play. He pieced together a fantastic spring, going 22-3 in dual play, including a run of 14 straight victories to open the spring. He posted a straight set win over #74 Keziel Juneau (William & Mary) and ended the season 25-9 overall, good enough for First Team All-CAA honors.

He teamed with Chomette at the No. 1 doubles position for Old Dominion, going 12-10 in duals and 19-13 overall. The pair earned Second Team All-CAA honors after winning the Monarch Collegiate Invitational and advancing to the Quarterfinal Round of the ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament. The two combined for a huge win in conference play, upsetting the 19th ranked William & Mary tandem of Sebastien Vidal and Keziel Juneau, 8-6.

The Monarch men's tennis team went 15-10 overall in 2009-10.
