SOUTH BEND, IN-- ODU's Samantha Morrell (Kingston, RI.), the CAA Rookie of the Year shot 72 in the first round of the 34th annual US Women's Public Links Championship. The tournament is being played at the University of Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course.
She is at plus 1 today, tied for 27th. After Tuesday's second round of stroke play,the top 64 advance to match play on Wednesday and Thursday.
Morrell had two birdies (on the third and 13 holes) and 13 pars on the day. Kimberly Kim of Hilo, HI leads the even with a five under 66, followed byLizette Salas of Azusa, CA. and Stephanie Kono of Honolulu with a 67. A total of156 golfers are competing.
