BROOKLINE, MA--Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va. )doubled home Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the top of the 10th with two outs to give the Monarchs (18-28/6-11) a 4-3 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Northeastern (10-25/3-14) Saturday afternoon. The start of the game was delayed three hours due to rain in the Boston area.
McAloose knocked in two runs on the day as did sophomore Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.) who extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Donnie Corsner and sophomore Kenny Stoneback each had two hits on the day.
Corsner reached base in the 10th on a Huskie error, then McAloose doubled him home with two outs.
ODU scored in the fourth on Baker's solo homer to left field. It was his sixth of the season which ties him for the team lead with McAloose. In the eighth inning, ODU added two more runs when Kenny Stoneback (Colonial Heights, VA.) scored on a McAloose sacrifice fly. Chris Baker's reached base on a Huskie error which plated Corsner.
Northeastern was led by John Puttress who knocked in two runs and Logan Gillis who knocked in one.
Junior Adam Wisniewski picked up the win in relief for the Monarchs and senior Cory Toth picked up his third save of the season. ODU starter Chris Boggs got a no decision, but pitched seven-plus innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk. In all, the three ODU pitchers fanned 10 batters with only one walk.
The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Friedman Diamond.
